Dark-Sky Night

Big Bend is a certified Dark Sky park, and on a moonless night you can read the Milky Way like a map. A guide sets up the telescope, points out the planets and the deep-sky objects, and tells you what you are looking at. Blankets, hot drinks, and no light for miles.

Good to know.

Do I need experience to join a guided trip?
No. Every trip lists a difficulty, from easy to strenuous, and our guides match the pace to the group. The dark-sky night and the hot springs paddle are great for first-timers and families; the South Rim hike is a serious day.
What is included in a guided trip?
The guide, the gear, the permits, and the food noted on each trip. You bring sturdy shoes, sun protection, and a willingness to be out all day. We handle the rest, including shuttles where needed.
How far ahead should I book a trip?
The popular trips fill up, especially in peak season. Book as early as you can, and tell us your dates even if you are still planning, so we can hold a spot.
What is the minimum age for guided trips?
It varies by trip. The river floats and dark-sky nights welcome kids; the strenuous hikes and the longer backcountry days have a higher minimum. Each trip notes its requirements, and we are glad to advise.
